What exactly is in a name? For celebrities…a lot! A name is so important, especially for their careers and the industry that they’re in. Names are very individual to a person and can often make or breaks a person’s legacy, which is why many famous people change their birth name to a stage name or a nickname. We can’t deny the feeling when we learn that our favorite celebs have completely different names than what we know them as. So let’s take a look at which celebs have changed their names.

While John Legend may not really sound like a made up name, its a really a nickname that was given to him by his friends from his childhood which eventually grew as a stage name and we’re so glad it stuck! John’s birth name is actually John Roger Stephens. He has said before that ‘Legend’ may have not been a name he would’ve chosen for himself but sure he’s glad that its been part of his huge success.

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson aka Katy Perry

We all know and love the marvelous American pop-singer, Katty Perry. She, herself elected to change her name from Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson only because she was worried that once she began her career, people would perhaps be confused with actress the famous Kate Hudson. So after a short time referring to herself as Katheryn Perry, she finally settled on Katy Perry. Perry is her mother’s maiden name, so it was easy enough for the young singer to adopt the nickname and we definitely agree it worked so well for her, Go Katy!

The story goes that the star shortened his mother’s maiden name- Vincent to get his new first name. As for “Diesel,” he claims that he was given the name by his friends who said he was always full of energy. Seems fitting, right?

Fans might be stunned but actress’s middle name is Meghan.  So what exactly is her name then?  Her parents gave her the name Rachel Meghan Markle, Rachel is the same name as her character in Suits. But since becoming a royal she goes by Rachel Meghan Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Sussex.
