Unlocking the Past
The key fit perfectly, and with a soft click, the lock released. The door creaked open, revealing a set of narrow stairs leading up into darkness. Marie hesitated, her heart pounding in her chest. She fumbled for the light switch, but the bulb above flickered and died almost immediately. Grabbing a flashlight, she took a deep breath and started up the stairs. The air was thick with dust, and the scent of old wood and forgotten things hung in the air.

Unlocking the Past
A Room Frozen in Time
When Marie reached the top of the stairs, her flashlight beam swept across the room. It was as though time had stopped here. Old furniture was covered in white sheets, and shelves were lined with objects from another era. Papers were scattered across a large desk in the corner, and a heavy trunk sat at the center of the room, locked with a rusted padlock. Marie felt a strange mix of excitement and dread as she approached the trunk, key in hand.
