She might be pregnant, but this waitress began her shift like any other day. Not once did she think that she would get the experience of a lifetime that day. But just what happened that made her cry there and then?

Struggling More Than Usual

That day was even harder than usual for her. Her belly grew very big since she went into the third trimester. Her back hurt and her feet felt heavy. Still, she had no choice but to do her job as usual.

After she looked at the folder with the check that the officer left at his table, she found a note. After reading it, she went up to her manager. She could not contain all of the emotions that she felt!

Saving For The Baby

Courtney Cadigan had been eight months into her pregnancy at the time. Despite this, she kept working at the Lamp Post Diner. She wanted to make sure that she would be financially stable for her baby.

Every Cent

She was about to be a mother, so she wanted to make sure that she can give her baby a good life. Each cent made a difference for a person like her. Who can blame her? Kids are truly expensive to raise.

Difficult Work

It is not at all easy to work as a waiter or waitress. A lot of people do not know how they have to stay on their feet for hours only to earn low salaries. Sadly, not a lot of people tip as much as they should either.

Not A Regular

There were regulars at the diner. For one, there were lots of cops who dropped by to get a meal before their shift started. Courtney was used to seeing them, but the officer who just came in was unfamiliar.

Before leaving the place, he made sure to leave a note for his waitress. Not once did Courtney think she would experience this. After all, it was the first time that such a thing happened to her.

Thoughts Racing Through Her Mind

Her due date was for April Fools day that year. It was getting closer and closer. At the same time, she was even more worried about having enough money. Sadly, things with the father ended on a bad note.

All Alone

Sadly, she had no choice but to go through parenthood on her own. This was what she had been thinking about when the officer came in. She welcomed him to the diner and then got him a menu.

He only got a green salad and a glass of water. Courtney was rather relieved to escape such an awkward situation. However, she could feel that he kept his eyes on her as she made her way to the kitchen.

After going through the doors again, she noticed that there were more people in the diner. There was now a couple sitting in the booth right behind the cop. She went to them to introduce herself.

Before placing their orders, the couple warmly congratulated her, unaware that the police officer was listening to every word intently. When Courtney brought him his salad and went to the other customers to serve them, he watched her even more.

This mystery man finished his salad and water in no time at all. After this, he called for Courtney’s attention to get the check. His total only came up $9.00. Of course, she went back to give him the bill.

Filling Up

It was starting to get busy at the diner, so Courtney could not stay with him. She went over to look after the other patrons and failed to notice when the cop walked out. There was a lot of work for her to do!

The Note

Upon opening this leather folder, she saw that he left enough money to cover the cost of the meal. On top of this, he left a note for her. What were the words that this police officer left on the bill?

What Was The Problem?

“He must have overheard my conversation with other customers,” she later recalled. What did he do? Did he shame her for her pregnancy? Could it be that he found the service she provided to be lacking?

Good Luck

She saw the note and then read the words he left for her. She was shocked by what she saw. The note said, “Enjoy ur 1st. You will never forget it.” It came with the $9 he left for the bill. How sweet of him!

In Disbelief

She was in shock when she saw just how much he left for her in the tip. She was already emotional thanks to the pregnancy but felt stunned by his generosity. This was when she went over to her manager in tears!

While she tried to prevent the tears from falling, she did not succeed. She returned to the back with this check. After seeing Courtney in such a state, the boss assumed that a bad thing just happened.

Courtney then rushed to the parking lot. She hoped he had not yet left but was saddened to see that he was no longer there. How could she possibly find him now? She did not even get his name!

After her shift, she went home and then dialed the Voorhees Township Police Department number. She hoped to get in touch with the cop. She also told Brian, her dad, about what happened during her shift.

He could not believe how kind the cop had been. He took to Facebook to share the photo of the note and said, “What a wonderful person to not only leave a VERY generous tip but a lovely message too”.

He said, “It’s not the amount, it’s the humanity of it.” He went on, “He saw she was struggling and a young girl. She was working in a diner while pregnant, standing with that kind of weight on her, and it was his way of saying, ‘I understand your struggle.’”
