There was confusion among the firefighters as to why the mother was not with the babies. In the first place, it was completely illogical for the babies to be there. If they were in the wild, it would have made some sense, but that was not the case.

The firemen had to figure out the sewer’s layout before they could carry on with the rescue. It is possible that the mother and father of the animals were there, but when the firefighters arrived, they were spooked. They still have to figure out what animals they’ve rescued.
