Finding Out
When Baena arrived at school, he had the mindset that today would be exactly the same as every other day that he had spent in middle school. However, the moment Baena heard the news, her world was turned completely and utterly on its head. Nothing was the same again. My recollection of the occurrence is as clear to me as it was when it first transpired, which is to say that it is quite clear indeed.
Finding Out
His grade: 8. Five or six quarters. Skip class. Mom: “We gotta go—everyone is finding out about you and your father,” he told MennHealth. His grandmother confirmed his fatherhood later that day. The mother fled California in case a teen wanted more.
Hiding Out
Mildred and Joseph fled the state on a lengthy road journey in order to avoid the paparazzi and the news reporters who were following them. Mildred escorted Joseph out of the state. They made their way to Texas, where members of Mildred’s family had offered to take care of them while they hid out from the mayhem back in their home state. They were able to get away from the situation there.
Hiding Out
The mother and son were each other’s biggest supporters. Baena had trouble trusting anyone, even family, but they supported each other. They relied on one other as they navigated a major scandal, especially when their family became nosy.
